My vanity table, everything ranging from makeup to cleansers to nail polish.
Achieving the 'no makeup look' whilst wearing make up is probably every girl's cosmetic dream. Initially (I admit with shame) I was like every other teen, eagerly piling on all kinds of makeup in hopes to make myself that much closer to a photoshopped Miranda Kerr. After a few months I realised that not only was it a horrible look, it was also detrimental to the health of my skin.
Now, a year later and much wiser, I'd like to think I've somewhat perfected the 'no make up' look, and to my surprise it isn't that hard to achieve.
1. Always use sun protection, even when its cloudy or rainy. I bought them in China, one from Aiyaya and the other from MAC. Both glide on easily and are sheer. They don't clog up your pores and won't wreck your foundation as the day goes on.
2. Achieving the 'no makeup' look. They always say: "To not prime, is a crime." By priming before putting on foundation or (in my case) BB cream, it always makes the product last longer. I smooth MAC Prep+Prime all over with my fingers, then apply the BB cream with a 191 Foundation brush. After that, I dust a thin layer of Lightful Pressed Powder over the BB cream with a 134 Powder brush. For touch ups on the go, choose a compact brush like 182. Sometimes, especially in summer, I opt for only MAC Studio Fix pressed powder instead of BB cream as it feels lighter on my skin.
3. Sweep Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul over cheek bones, then add a small streak of Mineralize Skin Finish in Lightscapade for flushed cheeks. For the eyes, I use Stylenanda 3Concept Eyes eye colour palette in More Brown. I use the dark brown as eyeliner, and the pale gold on the rims under my eyes to give a fresh and awake look. Sometimes I ditch the eyeshadow and go straight for Stylenanda Liquid Brown eyeliner. In general, brown on the eyes is a more natural look than black. On the brows, it's MAC Brow Shader which I apply with a 266 angled brush. For eyelashes, I use MAC Haute & Naughty Lash, then go over in Laura Mercier waterproof mascara.
4. Lips, like the face, needs proper care as well. Nobody likes chapped lips, and in my opinion, they're painful too. I've had my fair share of lip balms (I am such a sucker for pretty product packaging) but in my experience these three trump everything else. Especially Lucas' Papaw Ointment. I've bought two tubes back from Australia and have been using them ever since. It's a miracle they haven't run out yet. In terms of lip colour, my top three are Chanel Rouge Coco No. 25, MAC Satin in Peach Stock, and Matte in Honey Love. For my skin tone, Peach Stock gives the perfect nude lip, while Honey Love gives the natural flushed lip colour.
5. Lastly, a girl must clean well. Your face is the canvas for the makeup, and if your skin isn't clean your makeup isn't going to last. I use cotton pads and cleanse my face with MAC Charged Water Cleanser, and for my eyes I use Gently Off Eye & Lip Makeup Remover. Both are perfect for sensitive skin, and have never made my skin sting or breakout which is a necessity for someone like me. The same routine goes for the brushes. A dirty brush will cause your skin to break out over time, so keeping your brushes clean are of utmost importance.
So that's my beauty routine. My mother still tsks at the fact that I even use makeup, no matter how little I wear.
But girls will always be girls, right?
